Waterfall Below Lake Oesa in Little Yoho National Park, Canada

Waterfall below Lake Oesa
6"x8"Oil on Canvas Panel, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in USA

I was camped with the Seattle Mountaineers in 1971 when I first saw this waterfall. This whole area is most remarkable for wildflowers, interesting geology and mountains. The trail system makes it more accessible than many other places.

Alaska Braided River

Alaska Braided River
unframed Oil on panel, 5"x7" $100 including free shipping

It is hard to visualize the scale of these glacier fed rivers. They carry immense loads of sediment and when running fast roll boulders along. This creates an ever changing  landscape in the Great Land of Alaska. If you have not seen the Interior of Alaska, I recommend you visit at least a little bit of it. You will soon find out why small planes that can land on water are so popular there. Few roads but lots of little lakes. Superb fishing from a float plane!

Alcan Highway III

Alcan Highway III

Unframed 5" x 7" Oil painting on panel, $100 including free shipping in USA

Mountains, mountains and more mountains. Trees sometimes, but more often lots and lots ot water. Bog, muskeg, shallow ponds, small willow bushes all add up to good animal habitat. Moose, bear, wolves and lots and lots of silly little rodents that stand up at the side of the road, less than a foot tall, Maybe they are waiting for a ride? They remind me of mountain pika. Maybe they are pika?

Alaska Snag (Standing Dead Tree Trunk)

Alaska Snag
5" x 7" Oil Painting on Panel, unframed
$100 including free shipping in USA

I must confess, this may have been on the Alcan Highway or the Cassier Highway. I have driven both several times. Unfortunately, neither one has helpful road signs labeling the mountains that one can see. Sometimes the road maps are not very helpful as well, so many mountains and so few names. Is it not wonderful to have mysteries still found on a journey?

Mt Juneau with Head in the Clouds

Mt. Juneau with Head in the Clouds
5" x 7" Oil Painting on Panel, $100 includes free shipping in USA

Up above the streets (at that time) on Douglas Island I saw this view across the channel. I knew I wanted to paint it, but it had to wait for its turn. I have a closet in my mind that is stuffed with images to paint. If only there were more hours in the day...

Mt. Roberts with its Head in the Clouds

Mt. Roberts, 5" x 7" Oil on Panel, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.

There is now a Tram to the top of Mt. Roberts with a wonderful view and a great restaurant. When I lived there, I could only access the heights by trail when the snow was gone. Pretty rugged country but astoundingly beautiful.

Looking Down Gastineau Channel

Foggy Channel
Oil on 5" x 7" Gessobord, unframed, $100 free shipping in USA

After living in Alaska for years, I really, really appreciate sunshine. However, I have found that after a few days of sun, I find the plain blue sky boring. How much more fun to have the constant variety in Southeast Alaska! Watching the fog slowly lift, revealing boats and mountains that were invisible a moment before is magical.

A Very Rare Sunny Autumn Day in Juneau

Original oil painting on 5" x 7" Claybord, unframed, $100 includes shipping in USA

I had taken a "mental health" day off when the day dawned bright and sunny in Juneau, Alaska. I grabbed my camera and headed for some of my favorite trails. I spent the day dashing around capturing ideas for future paintings.

Another View from the Alcan Highway from Years Past

Oil Painting on Raymar mounted canvas 6" x 8" unframed $100 including shipping
Yes, this road in the interior of Canada and Alaska has skies that we don't often see along the coast. Big Thunderheads and rain falling in just one little place on the mountain as the clouds rise to ride the thermals.

Buy this 6" x 8" unframed oil painting for $100 including shipping in USA.

I loved exploring as much of Canada and Alaska that I could access by vehicle. I have driven parts of the Alaska Highway (Alcan Highway) several times and enjoyed seeing wildlife, wild flowers, wild weather and lots of empty skies.
