Inspired by Malvina Reynolds "Little Boxes" Song

Boxed In
6 x 6 inch Acrylic on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.
I never know what memories will pop up when I am surrounded by my past in my studio. Sometimes the mind makes very odd connections with long past activities. In this case, it was guitar lessons with my daughter, where we first heard this song.

Inspired by a California Swimming Pool, Seen From the Air

Swim
6 x 6 inches Acrylic on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.
Still having fun, but slowing down and thinking about where this was going. I remembered a swimming pool I had seen in a California yard from an airplane. It was such a fascinating shape but was like a jewel in a setting. That started this idea for a painting.

Foot Trail Winter Access

Winter Trail
6 x 6 inches Oil on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.
In the winter in Juneau, there were several places where a foot print trail was the only ingress and egress to a dwelling. Some of the little dirt roads just were not plowed years ago. They made lovely places to photograph the sun on the snow and shadows from trees.

Trail Marks on the Alder Tree Trunks

Alder Trees
6 x 6 inches Oil on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.
If you have ever hiked in the snow, or tried to follow a trail on snow shoes or skis, you have probably seen different colors of paint on tree trunks. These mark trails and come in various colors, depending on the designer. Of course, you need tree trunks that are tall enough to stick out of the snow, or a climate that doesn't dump 40 feet of snow every winter like some places receive. This trail was marked in orange, a fine, happy color.

Like a Gothic Cathedral in Nature

Cathedral Grove
6 x 6 inches Oil on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in USA.
I was out snow shoeing, looking for striking images of the sun on the snow. Another artist and myself, wandering about on snow shoes in Alaska. This wonderful grove of trees was at the bottom of the mountain that we were on the slopes of, with plans to make the summit. The snow was firm and we really enjoyed the day and the photos that we took. We did try painting some small watercolors of Mt. Roberts, since the conditions in the sun meant that the paint would dry. If you have ever painted on glaring white paper in the sun, you know what happens to your value relationships. If you wear sunglasses, the colors are off. One must choose between the two options however. We protected our eyes with sunglasses.

Tree of Gold

Cold Glimmer
6 x 6 inches Oil on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.
The world is a different place when covered in ice and snow. The familiar becomes fantastic. Down in the canyon, this solitary tree stood. It brought to mind the Nordic Tree of Life.

Winter Sun on Snow

Winter Sun on Snow
6 x 6 inches Oil on Museum Gessobord, unframed, $100 includes free shipping in the USA.
I loved to go out on snow shoe or cross country ski adventures. It was always especially fine when the sun shone, creating wonderful shadows. Beware those tree holes. Sometimes they are quite narrow and deep, really difficult to get out of if you slide in head first as I did once!
